No More Drive-Throughs

7/31/2021

Hello beautiful ladies. Earlier this month I started a study on the book Just Pray by Pastor John F. Hannah. In the very first chapter he lays things out so beautifully that I wanted to share them with you.

Pastor Hannah explains that we often treat God like a drive through experience. Consider your favorite fast-food restaurant. Whenever you go through the drive through window it is all about saying what you need, getting it and moving on. There is no patience required, the gratification is instantaneous, and you don’t get to know who is behind the speaker serving you.

Now consider your favorite sit-down restaurant. In a sit-down restaurant, the experience is altogether different. When we take the time to sit down, we get to know the waiter. We soak in the ambiance. We read the menu and spend time getting to know the people that we came with.

Prayer time is so critical to our faith walk but we don’t always sit down long enough to be intimate with God. Sometimes we just want to tell God all about our problems and we move on hoping that He fixes them. This is a drive-through experience.

Question: In the last week, how many drive through experiences have you had with God versus how many sit-down experiences have you had? Be honest! This isn’t to judge you but to bring awareness. Sometimes we rush through prayer while taking our time on things that are a lot less important. Ladies, I know it’s not intentional, but we must do better. Believe me, I am applying the same standard to my life as well.

Jesus wants to have a SIT-DOWN EXPERIENCE with you. He wants to talk with you often and know you intimately. He wants to have a relationship with you. He wants you to tell Him what’s on your heart and He wants you to listen to what’s on His heart.

All relationships take quantity and quality of time to develop so I challenge you to not just “fit him in” but make Him your priority. I trust that you will!

He Loves You:

Psalm 56:8 You’ve kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights, each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book.

He Wants to be in Relationship with You:

John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me.

He is Concerned About What is Concerning You:

2 Kings 20: 3-5 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.

You Can Have as Much of God as You Want

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded
